Scott & Ericka Hayes
At 19 years old, Scott Hayes had a life changing encounter with God in a Detroit MI hotel. In his words, “God came and found me when I didn’t deserve to be found.” Scott knew in that moment he wanted to spend the rest of his life telling people they could experience the goodness and grace of God too, even if they didn’t deserve it.
Simultaneously in the jungles of Venezuela, Ericka Hayes, who had grown up in church, had a revelation of what it meant to have a relationship with God for herself. That experience radically impacted her and she knew she would spend her life telling people they could know God also.
Less than a year later Scott & Ericka got married and have been passionate about Jesus, each other and building God’s church ever since.
From the beginning, Element Church has focused on reaching people right where they are, with a specific heart for the leaders at Michigan State University. In its first year, over 70 people committed their lives to Jesus and the church added a second service to keep up with growth. At the same time, the church invested tens of thousands of dollars in outreach to their local community, to aid in the start of seven other churches & to show God’s love through missions worldwide.
For years, Pastor Scott & Ericka dreamed of starting a church that would help people know God in a clear, simple & elemental way. They saw a multi-generational, multi-ethnic movement where people could thrive in relationships & discover God’s purpose for their life. With the help of Team Element, a group of 50 people committed to seeing this dream become a reality, Element Church began September 20th, 2015. That first Sunday more than 180 people gathered at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.
After spending two decades learning and leading together, Scott & Ericka have also developed a passion to actively invest in other ministry couples, churches and leaders across the county. As church planters with the ARC (Association of Related Churches), they love being part of a movement that is impacting cities, states and regions nationwide.
Keeping Scott & Ericka in line are their three amazing kids; Elliana, Braelon, Karis and their pet cat Max.
